“Inspired by her background in theatre and creative writing, Sonia’s approach to any new project is first to tell a story.
From a young age, being part of the many hands of local theatre productions has shaped her work ethic and approach to any project. Namely ‘get the show on the road’ always being ready to hit the ground running, and ‘the show must go on’ , always being able to problem solve quickly and efficiently as things come up in the course of a project. And practically, her upbringing in theatre has taught her the set and prop building skills that inform her work today.
Sonia works in the art department of a major fashion company, building prototypes and allocating visual display components in stores across North America.
Her daily work runs the gamut from sewing, carpentry and sculpture to 3-d printing and installation. Her personal art practice is forever changing, from her early love of drawing comics to still life photography and food styling.
She has brought her unique style to campaigns for such major brands as Clearly, Shaw, Best Buy, Saje and Lululemon.
A big believer in collaboration, Sonia thrives being on set, building on those different perspectives and blending them together to produce outstanding work. This can do attitude has lead to work with such personalities as Annette Reilly, Jocelyn Panton, Ricky He, Trezzo Mahoro, and comedian Yumi Nagashima.
